Nokia has announced that it’s going to integrate Skype into its mobile phones, starting with its N97 touch-screen smartphone, which will be launched towards the end of 2009. Skype will be part of the phone’s address book, and users will be able to see which contacts are online and be able to instant message them. The integration will also allow users to start a free internet call or low-cost Skype-out call to a chosen contact over a 3G or wireless network.

“Making Skype available everywhere through mobile devices is essential to fulfilling our vision of ‘enabling the world’ conversations’,” said Scott Durchslag, Skype’s COO.

Skype will be integrated into further Nokia phones, although no roadmap has been released.
