German ISP 1&1 Internet, a United Internet group company, has confirmed the launch of a new tablet PC, called the SmartPad. The device features a 7-inch touch screen and runs the Android operating system, for access to a range of apps on the Android Market. Users can connect over Wireless N Wi-Fi or attach a USB modem for 3G mobile data. The SmartPad also comes with a music player, video player, digital picture frame, microSD slot, USB ports and access to a control portal for all 1&1 services. Customers can buy a docking station for the device for an extra USD 29.99. The ISP is offering the SmartPad free to customers who sign a contract for the 1&1 Doppel-Flat 16.000 broadband plan. The susbcription costs EUR 29.99 per month for the first 24 months and then increases to EUR 34.99. The company said it will also soon make the SmartPad available to existing customers.
